This is one of the new works created after my family and I moved to Cannes, France, back to my beloved Mediterranean Sea in spring. I have been painting and swimming daily (unless the sea was stormy), thinking a lot about the ambivalence of the Mediterranean Sea, about its being a source of life and loss for so many, about this sea witnessing so much of human misery and violence, the raging sea, fragile sea, sick with plastic, spitting it out, but there is no end to it. (Beach clean ups have become part of my daily routine). STILL the beautiful sea. So beautiful that it hurts! Having moved too often, I do not know where I belong to. The sea has become that place where I feel I belong to something bigger than myself. The sea feels like home. All these thoughts, emotions and experiences have gone into the works I am submitting today.
