Embracing the ancient Eastern tradition of sumi-e painting. A tradition which seeks to express the essence of nature using only varying dilutions of pigment ink. By carefully balancing the gradations of black, grey and white to create a harmonious composition, which echoes the spirit of the subject. In variance from tradition instead of paper I have created this work on primed canvas. Its subject being a simple roadside verge observed at dawn close to my home.

Our wildlife has suffered a catastrophic decline in recent years mainly due to habitat destruction. My work The Uncut Version is a plea to embrace the wild and untidy areas and leave as much of our gardens and verges to nature.
