Soft Pastels on black Paper

After a good few adjustments I managed to get the light I was looking for, for this piece, a single light source just above the clearest visible eye, I liked the drama this gave, I wanted a direct caught in the moment look to it, I am am inspired by Rembrandt and Classic films, so I endeavoured to do a Classical portrait pose and bring it contemporary feel, I aimed to give a soft focus effect on the sides of the face to give an added sense of depth. I hoped to give this work a sense of mystery and hopefully to draw some questions as to what his story is from the viewer.

This is of a professional artist model John Carrasco who has had amazing artists working form him. I loved this pose the lighting and the way his beard seems to be caught in a strong wind, hence my Title for this piece.. I could see him as a Crewman on a Pirate Ship looking seaward for approaching vessels. I love the drama. I enjoyed doing this in my way adding the white stripe to give an added sense of relief and contrast to the oppressive black background that places him in full focus.
